This definition builds on our definition of data-driven markets. Where we characterize a data-driven market as a market with machine-generated indirect network effects, the notion of connected markets focuses on the impact of user information gained in one market for the cost of innovation in another market. We take the connectedness of two specific markets as given. But firms can be creative in developing new business models and, thereby, exploring the degree of connectedness between two markets. Hence, if market entry costs are not prohibitive, a firm that manages to find a ‘data-driven’ business model can dominate most traditional markets in the long term. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/joie.12259

Gründungsstory Virtual Badge - Digital Certificates
What does Virtual Badge:
Sending certificates is a MUST for every serious educational provider. A certificate is the spearhead of a successful training, course, or seminar. The last touch point that your participant has with the educational service. On the one hand certificates create a sense of value and legitimacy for the knowledge and qualification that are given to the participants. On the other hand, they are a vehicle that allows its recipients to efficiently communicate their newly acquired skills to recruiters or HR departments. That’s why it was only a matter of time until this core process also joins the digital world with digital certificates. The wrong processes burns time, money, and reputation. However, talking to more than 1000 of educators, it was incredibly surprising to learn how many certificates are still being created manually. MS Word, PowerPoint or even design tools such as Canva and Photoshop are used to create each individual certificate.
An advanced and professional solution such as Virtualbadge.io that allows its customers to digitally manage QR-code verifiable certificates that integrate into professional social media (e.g., LinkedIn) is not made for the beginning. Still the Startup-Team believes that everybody deserves a solution that at the very least saves a lot of time on manual certificate creation.
Therefore, they took the time and resources to develop a certificate generator tool for business where you can automatically create hundreds of certificates within seconds.

For theory on collective intelligence, this research contributes the idea of collective intelligence as a mechanism for value capture that balances contributions to value creation, for example, in crowdsourcing approaches.
The extent to which the collective creativity generated during a hackathon can be perpetuated into collective intelligence will then impact the value received by participants, and community-building efforts become central to support this type of value capture. Further, if hackathon initiators and organizers can specify the precise benefits that participants can receive in addition to monetary prizes, the distribution of value capture will be clearer and more attractive for participants. From the publicly organized hackathon, we have seen that such benefits can also include having a say in the implementation of public policy. The benefits can be emphasized both in the implementation of hackathons and in the communication of potential benefits to participants, thereby attracting more participants as well as more effort from each of those participants.
